These tags contain electronically stored information, which can be read remotely using RFID readers or scanners. RFID systems consist of three main components: tags, readers, and a backend database or software system for data management.

RFID technology is frequently used for increased supply chain visibility, theft protection and security, real-time tracking inventory management and equipment monitoring in healthcare, manufacturing, and construction. While upfront investment is required, RFID offers long term cost saving with benefits including streamlined operations, reduced human error and enhanced visibility.
